The Faculty Abroad Seminar is designed to provide opportunities for Texas A&M faculty members to establish research and teaching contacts in Mexico, to develop collaboration and exchanges between Texas A&M and Mexican institutions, and to expose them to the Mexican culture and higher education system. Upon return, participating faculty are able to incorporate an international dimension into their curricula, to develop collaborative teaching and research projects with Mexican colleagues, and to create study abroad programs in Mexico.
Up to seven Texas A&M faculty members are selected each year on a competitive basis, many of whom later submit joint research proposals with their Mexican counterparts to the Texas A&M-CONACYT Collaborative Research Grant Program. These activities are complimented by cultural visits to museums and national historic landmarks.
While in Mexico, the faculty members participate in group visits to major Mexican universities and receive lectures at the Texas A&M Facility in Mexico on history, politics, economics and the Mexican equivalent to the National Science Foundation (CONACYT). They also have individual meetings with Mexican counterparts in their specific fields of expertise.

The 17th annual Faculty Abroad Seminar took place May 14-22, 2011.
